The final deadline for STSM applications has now passedIf you had been hoping to apply for STSM funding please contact John Jones ( This email address is being protected from spambots. STSMs from COST 872Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) are short visits to a lab in another country for the purposes of training or collaborative research. Funds are available from COST 872 to support such visits. Applications for funds are evaluated by the STSM Committee, which is composed of John Jones (SCRI), Lieve Gheysen (University of Gent), Geert Smant (Wageningen University), Pierre Abad (INRA), Florian Grundler (University of Bonn), Hinanit Koltai (Volcani Center) and Thomae Kakouli-Duarte (IT Carlow). STSM ReportsThe table below lists STSMs approved for funding through COST 872. Reports from people who have been on STSMs are made available here as they are produced.

The main objective of this Working Group will be to exploit the potential added value offered by use of comparative genomics as genomic information for nematodes accumulates. This WG will coordinate efforts in genome annotation in order to ensure that genome sequences are accessible to the community that aims to use them and will encourage comparative genomics of different plant parasitic nematodes as well as comparisons of plant parasitic nematodes with other plant pathogens and other (animal parasitic and free-living) nematodes. Work using established model systems such as C. elegans and Arabidopsis thaliana will also fall into this WG.

The main objectives of this Working Group will be analysis of the host response to nematode infection using genomics tools and the development of novel screens for germplasm carrying resistance loci using nematode avirulence effectors. This work area will exploit microarrays for studies of plant-nematode interactions in the susceptible and resistant interaction and will coordinate efforts to identify nematode proteins that are recognised by resistant plants (avirulence effectors).
